Joy of Discovery
Olivia Ewing, 2023
Joy of Discovery is a series of two distinct murals inside the Reynolds Hill vault bathroom in the Medicine Bow National Forest. The artist responded to Visit Laramie’s Cowboy Code of Ethics for responsible recreation.
From the artist:
The inspiration for this project stems from my love for the wild and all of the life therein. There is so much beauty and wonder in this space. This land is home to life that deserves to be cared for.
I explored the balance of people recreating and enjoying the Vedauwoo area, but also treating the flora and fauna with respect. The living organisms represented in this art installation can be found in this place. I hope this inspires people to recreate responsibility and enjoy this collective space in an ethical way.
Project support from Laramie Public Art Coalition and Visit Laramie. Thanks to the U.S. Forest Service Laramie Ranger District for their collaboration.
